At this time, no. The Referral Book is free to use.
Our goal is to make reliable resource information as accessible as possible. Any future changes to our model will be thoughtfully considered with accessibility and our mission at the forefront.
No. The Referral Book is not a crisis or emergency response resource and should not be used in place of emergency services or immediate crisis support.
The platform is designed to help professionals identify and connect individuals and families with community-based resources for ongoing needs. Individuals experiencing an immediate emergency or crisis should contact the appropriate emergency or crisis service.
At launch in 2026, The Referral Book is designed primarily for professionals who help individuals and families navigate community resources. This includes social workers, case managers, service providers, educators, healthcare professionals, community organizations, and other frontline professionals who regularly connect people with support.
Our long-term vision is to expand beyond professional use. In the coming years, we intend to develop accessible options that allow individuals and families to directly search for and navigate resources themselves—making reliable community information easier for everyone to access.
The Referral Book is built around the people who actually use resource directories every day. While many existing directories contain outdated, scattered, or difficult-to-navigate information, The Referral Book is designed to provide one centralized and continuously updated source that communities can rely on.
Built in Sacramento, by and for the people who use it, our approach prioritizes accuracy, accessibility, and real-world usability. We are not simply compiling a list of organizations—we are creating a living referral tool designed to help social workers, case managers, community organizations, and families quickly find relevant and reliable resources when they need them.
The Referral Book is a community-built referral directory designed to make finding support simpler and more reliable. We bring housing, food, health, family, and other essential resources into one searchable place—so social workers, case managers, community organizations, and families can spend less time searching for accurate information and more time connecting people to the help they need.
